 Summer
Wine Classic Car Hire Ltd is a family run business offering
superb classic cars for self-drive hire from its base in
Holmfirth in pennine West Yorkshire.
The company is owned by Richard Skelton and his partner Loretta
who also offer bed and breakfast accommodation from their home
at Ash House, a former mill owner's house overlooking
countryside on the edge of the famous Last of the Summer Wine
town.
Classic car hire is an ideal gift to mark a significant
birthday, anniversary or event and an exciting and different way
for couples to share special time together. And combining
classic car rental with a stay at Ash House creates the basis of
a fabulous mini-break.
What
better way to explore the beautiful Holme Valley and the
picturesque Peak District and pennine countryside nearby than
from behind the wheel of a classic motor car? Ash House is an
imposing former mill owner's house overlooking fields and
countryside but just ten minutes' walk from the town centre.
Full English breakfasts are cooked in an Aga and picnic hampers
can be supplied for lunches. Both are exclusively made up from
quality local ingredients.
Whether it's to realise a long-held ambition or to mark a
special birthday or anniversary, classic car hire makes for a
day out or holiday with a difference. Personalised gift vouchers
are available and Richard and Loretta are happy to work closely
with customers who are purchasing car hire as a surprise gift
for a loved one.
The fleet is made up of eight iconic British motor cars from the
1960s and 1970s comprising several sensational Jaguars, a
beautiful Rolls Royce, a stately Rover and a trio of exciting MG
and Triumph open topped sports cars.
Loretta's
favourite car is the company's sensational silver Jaguar Mk II.
This is the Jaguar model made extra famous by the television
series Inspector Morse but this elegant and attractive saloon
car had already established itself as an important part of
Britain's motoring heritage and is undoubtedly one of the most
handsome cars of all time. The interior of this 1964 car is
sumptuous with blue leather seats and walnut trim. Certainly a
special place in which to sit and enjoy the spectacular Summer
Wine countryside. A newly restored Jaguar 240 Mk II saloon is
the most recent addition to the fleet. Fabulous in old English
white, this 1969 model has a lovely red leather and walnut
interior.
The
Jaguar E-Type created such a stir when it was launched Jaguar's
order books were full for years and the Daily Mail dubbed the
slinky new cat 'The Most Wanted Car In The World'. Even now it
is considered by many experts and enthusiasts to be the most
beautiful car of all time. Why not get behind the wood rimmed
steering wheel of Summer Wine Classics' Jaguar E-Type, the 91st
E-Type coupe ever built, to explore the highways and byways of
Pennine Yorkshire.
The Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II is a big and powerful car but
is effortlessly elegant and beautiful at the same time. This
sophisticated saloon has top grade black hide upholstery, deep
pile carpets and luxurious lambswool rugs. Whether driving it or
being driven, riding in Summer Wine Classics' Georgian silver
Rolls Royce is a wonderful way to travel.
The
company's vibrant Triumph Stag is a fantastic classic car and a
real head turner. It has Italian looks, a gorgeous sounding
engine and it is a true four seater which makes it a practical
open topped sports car for all the family to enjoy. Summer Wine
Classics' Pimento red beauty has a special stainless steel
exhaust, through which the car's fruity British 3.0 litre V8
engine burbles exquisitely as it tours the lanes.
Britain's all-time best selling British sports car is the MGB.
Good looking with lively performance but easy to drive, the car
sold well from its launch in 1962 and throughout its 18 year
production run. Summer Wine Classics has a tartan red 1964 car
and a 1978 version in old English white. Both are in immaculate
condition and are great fun to drive.
Last but not least is Richard's favourite car; a 1962 Rover 100.
Post war Rovers had an upmarket image and the company earned a
deserved reputation for engineering excellence. Travelling in
Summer Wine Classics' delightful dove grey Rover saloon really
is a journey back in time. Throughout the 1950s and early 1960s
these Rovers were popular with professional types, especially
Britain's bank managers, and if Captain Mainwaring from the
popular BBC sitcom Dad's Army continued driving long enough
after the war we feel sure he will have had one!
Hiring
a classic car is a nostalgic opportunity to experience classic
motoring at its best, although Summer Wine Classics cars have
received sensible upgrades where appropriate such as improved
brakes, headlights and ignition systems. All the company's cars
are in absolutely tip top condition. They are maintained by
specialists and checked over before and after every hire.
Prices include fully comprehensive insurance and RAC Recovery
and an accompanied test drive enables every hirer to get fully
to grips with the controls before he or she heads off into the
countryside for their special day out.
Summer Wine Classics' cars are also available with drivers for
weddings and other special occasions. A classic car is a stylish
alternative to a traditional wedding vehicle and arguably much
more tasteful than a stretched limo!
